Veraison 2020 arrives...

Malbec at NMSU's Las Cruces Fabian Garcia
Agriculture Science Center (photo taken 1 July, 2020)

Malbec entering "veraison",  berry development when Brix @ 8-10 degrees are measured, color formation initiated, flavor and aroma compounds becoming evident...This is the final stage of grape maturation...and raises the annual and somewhat eternal question? When is it time to pick?

In the following sequence of photos one can see the four ground covers that are being evaluated within the row middles in the Malbec planting at Las Cruces.

Alfalfa

Flowering mix, that attracts beneficial insects?

Bare ground or cultivated "control", note the sedge that is evident?
