Montepulciano at two New Mexico locations
Check out the photographs of Montepulciano growing at Velarde, NM and at Las Cruces, ~ 340 miles south of Velarde. The vines are approximately the same age, and the photographs were taken a day apart. Jerry Bird, owner/operator of Black Mesa Winery in Velarde, informs that he typically harvests his Montepulciano in October. The Las Cruces Montepulciano will likely be harvested by August 20th or so...nearly two months earlier.
